| Dave Weigel is one of those national voices who is either hot or cold. Either he is spot on, or he leaves you thinking, "God, this dude is dumber than a sock puppet." Today, it's the latter. In the space of one paragraph, he goes from saying that talk about bills about medical procedures ought to include conversation about medical terms to saying that this isn't hat happened here in Michigan. Here, it's not about vaginas, but about terminating pregnancies. Yeah, I don't understand, either, and there's also this. ... Fie on the Republicans for shutting up Brown. That doesn't save "keep away from my vagina" from being a distracting, wrong complaint about the bill being debate. The official legislative analysis of the bill is here. As Steiger points out, it regulates abortion providers, fetus disposal, and what to do "if a patient discloses coercion to abort or that domestic violence is occurring." ...
He either isn't aware of the practical impact of the regulations these bills would place on abortion providers (it would essentially make it impossible for virtually all clinics currently performing abortions to continue doing so) or he's purposefully obtuse. There is a third option, that he's bought Republican frami9ng that this isn't about regulating abortions but about making them safer, but the only person dumb enough to have been fooled by that has been Magic Frank. |
