| Teh Demas has a pretty good column wrapping up the Bolger-Schmidt fiasco. It connects the dots and fills in the spaces to give us a picture of a someone who is disinterested in input from others because he believes that whatever course he sets himself on is ultimately the only right way to do something and to which dissenting opinions are obnoxious gnats to wave away. It's the sort of attitude best suited to the owner of a small, local chain of oil change places, not someone who governs over a complex state of 10 million people. But, we have term limits to thank for elevating the mediocre. By the way, it ought to be painfully evident to anyone watching now that the successes in the Legislature of "getting stuff done" come not because the people in positions of authority are now the best and brightest the state has to offer, but because it's easy to get stuff done if you don't have to work with others. But, you can thank term limits for giving us a political environment that elevates mediocrity to a place of supreme importance. |
