Reindeer man's temper problem

by: Eric B.

Wed Aug 22, 2012 at 11:40:12 AM EDT

I look forward to a blog post at MichCapCon outlining how this is only because the MEA is because tenure once made it difficult to fire bad teachers.

On the first day of school last year, Kerry Bentivolio told students in his English class at Fowlerville High School that he had one goal: to make each one of them cry at least once.

Bentivolio, now the Republican candidate in Michigan's 11th Congressional District -- which includes western Wayne and Oakland counties -- also told the students that they were "just a paycheck to me," according to a description of incidents in his personnel file.

If you read through the whole thing and are capable of understanding, it tells you the entire line of argument behind tenure reform is utter horseshit. Here was a lousy teacher -- now the Republican candidate for Congress in Thad McCotter's old district -- who hated his job, and was ultimately bounced from it because of pressure placed on him to improve his performance. And, by the way, making education about competition for dollars won't make this go away, it'll make it so that every child is a paycheck for an educator, and only the best will look past that for the good of a child's education.

By the way, it says that Nancy Cassis said she'd drop out of the special primary election if she lost her write-in bid. You know, that's the election that will cost a bunch of money that municipalities don't really have and m for two weeks? The article says she's still a candidate.

I'll bet Beintivolio still wins in November
Mark Brewer, the Pillsbury Doughboy of Michigan politics, has already signaled that he's written off the district, even though this is a once-in-a-generation pickup opportunity.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

where?
where has brewer signaled this?  News to me.

Story in the August 9 Free Press
http://www.freep.com/article/2...

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer said outside a GOP unity event in Lansing that his party would be watching closely to see how the race develops before deciding to use party resources to help Taj.

"How the race develops?" Bentivolio is in the Allen West tier of craziness. That was established long ago. By issuing such a weaselly statement, Brewer signaled--and that was the term I used upthread--that he's going to take a powder.

There's a DCCC rep on the ground here, working in the Taj for Congress office
The DCCC hasn't involved itself in MI-11 since...ever, as far as I can recall.

THEY see the pickup opportunity. And I'm sure Mark Brewer has in fact seen "how the race develops" and will decide to jump in, if he hasn't already*.

Where did Brewer spend most of the evening on Primary night? IN Dr. Taj's Novi office, shaking hands, posing for pictures and constantly on his cell phone (doing interviews with Craig Fahle, among others).

He also made an appearance at the Northville Democratic Club Picnic this past Saturday, along with Dr. Taj.

Those aren't gestures you'd expect from someone who's "written off" the 11th.

* I'll be sure to check with Natalie Mosher to see if Brewer is putting $$ behind gestures.

I bet Nasty Nancy Cassis
who was famous in Lansing for being kind of an ogre to her staff, has new respect for Krazy Kerry. Now he probably sounds like much more her type of guy.

I also don't take Mark Brewer's comments as a signal that he is taking a powder on the 11th.  For one thing the DCCC will make those decisions, not the MDP, and they'll do it based on polling, not a party chair's feelings.  Apart from polling, the other thing to consider is that we have a MUCH more likely pickup in the 1st CD and a shot at an upset in the 3rd CD.  There is only so much pie to go around and I'd guess that Gary McDowell in the 1st and Steve Pestka in the 3rd will get their share before the 11th gets DCCC attention.

As I mentioned, the DCCC has given support to Dr. Taj
I met him this past Saturday at the 11th District Convention in Livonia. Seems nice...and competent, if young.

How Does that
How does that mean Brewer is signaling he is walking on the race?
