| Keep in mind this guy draws an annual salary north of $70,000 on the public dime. In July, Rep. Greg MacMaster, R-Kewadin, introduced House Bill 5785, which would ban in Michigan the implementation of the United Nation's "Agenda 21" — a U.N. environmental treaty that encourages biodiversity and sustainable development. MacMaster said Agenda 21 is a threat to property rights in Michigan. He's concerned local governments will embrace the U.N. environmental strategy through smart growth policies, which in turn, he said, infringe on property rights.
Just to be clear on this ... this bill would be an entirely fruitless remedy to the purported problem. If the U.S. Senate were actually to sign off on a treaty -- necessary for foreign ideas to become law in the United States -- it would by that very nature become the law of the land and supersede this one. And, you have to believe that the Senate would take this up in the first place. But, just keep this in mind. The state Legislature of Michigan employs as lawmakers people who believe the U.N. is out to steal their freedoms. It frankly explains much. |
