| You don't know what you've got, 'til it's gone. LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Money has been added to debit cards for nearly half of 85,000 Michigan food assistance recipients who were without the aid for a day. The state says Friday that about 40,000 Bridge Cards had been loaded as of midmorning. The goal is to add money to all of the affected cards by day's end.
I assume that some garden variety fuck up is involved. Regardless, it's a reminder of the need for this kind of thing. If food stamps were really unnecessary, no one would be screaming bloody murder over it. And, it's worth nothing that the people who brought this to the state's attention was a grocery store group. Those people benefit from food stamps to the extent that they sell food to the poor. Not only does it help people, but it's stimulative in that it directly creates demand for goods that would otherwise not exist. |
