| At 3 p.m., today. LANSING -- Gov. Rick Snyder has scheduled a 3 p.m. press conference in Lansing today to announce a “high-level” appointment, presumably a Supreme Court Justice to replace former Justice Diane Hathaway who resigned in January amidst a scandal over a short sale of her Grosse Pointe Park home.
Finally, a short list of candidates that doesn't include perennial short list filler out-er Jennifer Granholm. On the short list of candidates for Supreme Court are Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Colleen O’Brien, who finished third, just out of the running, in the race for the Supreme Court in November. Other names that have been mentioned as possibilities are: Michigan Court of Appeals Judges Kurtis Wilder and Kirsten Frank Kelley and Christopher Murray, Macomb County Chief Circuit Judge David Viviano, Snyder Chief Legal Counsel Michael Gadola and Michigan Supreme Court Counsel and Chief of Staff Matthew Schneider and Kent County Circuit Judge James Redford.
I know none of those people. Wait until this afternoon for the political media to delight in his choice of someone whose past rulings have leaned conservative, but not ideologically so. *--Possibly. UPDATE by ScottyUrb: Snyder has appointed Viviano. |
