David Knezek wins the weekend

by: ScottyUrb

Sat Feb 15, 2014 at 14:49:20 PM EST

State Rep. David Knezek has been promoting a big "campaign kickoff" event to be held today - leading everyone to believe that he would announce that he's running for a second House term. Just last night, in fact, he talked about it on his Facebook page.

Then, this happened:

We’re gathered here for me to share with you this: I will not be running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives this year.

Bummer, right?

Until this happened five minutes later:

I’m proud to announce for the first time publicly today that in 2014, I will be running to be your next State Senator. #TeamKnezek

Well done, sir.

By the way, he's in the 5th district, which is heavily Democratic and includes Dearborn Heights, Inkster, Garden City, Redford Township, and pat of Detroit. Tupac Hunter has represented the district since 2007.

Don't want to rain on the parade
But it's been known for months that Dave is running for the Senate - it wasn't a real top secret item in local and Lansing Dem circles.

But hey good for him if he still surprised a few folks.

Anyone else?
Has anyone else announced to run in this district?

To be honest, I'm just happy to see Hunter go, finally.  I understand conscience votes, but I've long since lost patience with the "church lady" types.

Anyone else?
David Nathan and Tommy Stallworth are expected to jump in anyday. And Knezek has been talking about jumping in since last May.
