About Michiganliberal.com

Michigan Liberal is an independent, non-partisan forum and source for commentary and information from a vaguely leftish point of view. It is not associated with, nor is its editor and owner a registered member of, any political party.

The purpose of Michigan Liberal is to promote ideas, thoughts, and proposals that help foster movement towards long-term prosperity and health for everyone, but especially focused on the people of Michigan. That movement encompasses excellent educational opportunities; wise environmental stewardship; affordable access to high-quality health care for every American; a robust justice system that promotes the rights and civil liberties of all mankind; guarantors for the safety and dignity of the aged, infirm, or just plain less fortunate; and the creation of safe workplaces and high-wage jobs that not just provide resources for everyone to pursue happiness but does not demean the worker.

About Eric Baerren (Eric B)

Eric is a professional berry picker, tomato gardener, and coffee drinker. He's also a freelance journalist with one steady gig as a weekly opinion columnist with Mount Pleasant's daily newspaper, The Morning Sun. He's also father to a son, chief of staff to a cat named Black, an alumni of Central Michigan University (BA in Journalism, '93), a Navy veteran, and a survivor of the newspaper industry. When he isn't standing on his front porch yelling at the kids to get off his lawn, he writes Among the Trees, which blends lifestyle and environmental issues (he hasn't owned a car in two years); and he is also currently serving as vice-chairman of the board for Greentree Cooperative Grocery Store. If you'd like, you may contact him at ebaerren@michiganliberal.com; or occasionally at AIM:ebaerren, MSN Messenger:ebaerren, or ICQ:388061874

About Jon K.

Photo of Jon Koller Jon was born in 1985 in Lexington, Kentucky but he didn't stay there long. Still an infant, his family moved to East Lansing for a short stint before his parents realized their proximity to the college atmosphere was not conducive to raising small children. For the next 14 years he lived in Okemos, a suburb of (East) Lansing. At age 18, he trucked down to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan. He is currently in grad school. In early 2005 he started the blog Michigan Politics, which he ruthlessly abandoned to join the Michigan Liberal staff. When he's not scheming or mapping influence lines over a bridge, Jon enjoys small scale organic farming and playing drums. One of these days he's going to finally get a banjo and learn how to play it.
