Day 2 of the Tim Walberg domestic violence scandal -
and ex-Rep. Walberg STILL refuses to acknowledge that his
just-resigned campaign volunteer coordinator should NOT have done this:
The (9-year old) boy had the beginning of a black eye,
finger marks on his face and trouble opening his jaw,
according to the police report. (Jackson Citizen Patriot, 10/26/06)
Instead, Walberg continues to say the child ought to be returned to his former employee (and foster father).
Is domestic violence not a problem in Tim Walberg's book? Certainly
there are literalist "spare the rod" preachers out there who believe violence against children is biblically justified.
Is Walberg among them? If so, does he believe this extends to giving a 9-year old a partial black eye, finger-marks on his face, and an injured jaw?
What about other kinds of violence? How far can a parent go? The voters are entitled to know.
Another interesting facet of this case. Walberg freely admits to
knowing about when Daniel Coons was charged with child abuse - but has
refused to say when he became aware of Coons' guilty plea. Did he not
know? Seems unlikely. According to the Cit-Pat article listed above Coons is making use of two different lawyers with ties to Walberg
to defend himself. If Walberg didn't know about the guilty plea, why
not? He says he knew about the charges. Did he not think it was
important to know what was going on? Did he not ask? If so, why not?
And then we see in today's (subscription only) MIRS newsletter that one
of Coons' attorneys threatened a Cit-Pat reporter with a libel suit!
From all appearances, Tim Walberg coddled and tried to cover up for someone
who abused a child. If he gets elected, Walberg should fit in quite nicely in the Republican caucus. Perhaps they'll elect him the new House minority leader.
Or perhaps...voters in CD07 can elect Sharon Renier instead! |
