1989-1992 Founder and CEO of  Windquest Group. Closet organizer and storage container business (less pressure). Quit to return to Amway.

POLICY POSITIONS:

Opposes abortion under any circumstances, other than to save life of the mother.  Even in cases of rape or incest.

Does not support law to ban smoking in restaurants and bars. Says Michigan citizens should have the right to CHOOSE

Opposes embryonic stem cell research even if existing and unused stem cells are discarded or thrown in trash. Despite the huge promise and potential of stem cell research to save lives and benefit the public health.

Supports abolishing Michigan SBT by end of 2007.  If abolished will  eliminate nearly two billion dollars of revenue to the state. Favors one-half of the revenue being replaced by a tax on business, but won't discuss other taxes considered to replace lost revenue or what cuts in services he would recommend.  For comparison, the entire operating budget of Michigan Department of Corrections is 1.7 billion dollars.

Supports eliminating business personal property taxes of 1.8 billion dollars but doesn't have plan to replace revenue lost by municipalities some of which depend upon this tax for 50-60% of their budgets.  This loss would cause elimination of essential  services (police, fire and schools).

Supports eliminating the estate tax.  Is one of 80 families that has lobbied Congress (with millions of dollars) to eliminate Federal and State Estate taxes which would be a huge tax windfall to the wealthiest of the wealthy.

Matt, Go over to dkos and check this diary out. (0.00 / 0)
http://www.dailykos....

Why don't you volunteer to do MI.  This way you can do MI and cross post at dkos.  I would love it.  Then I would be able to go between you and dk on election night very easily.  What do you think?

Nah (4.00 / 1)
Thanks for the thought, dk, but I think I'll pass. Michlib is my baby and having to cross-post all the time will only slow me down. Besides, I'm a selfish capitalist. I want people to have to come to Michlib!

Another reason: at some point in the evening (one way or another), I intend to get drunk. Don't worry, I have already enlisted the services of a designated driver to get me back to Lansing ($200 for a room at the Ren-Cen is too much). Anway, because of this I think it best to limit my responsibilities as much as possible. A teatotaler (c'mon, there's gotta be one!) would be much more qualified for this kind of thing.

Of course, anyone who wishes to simply re-post any Michlib posts to dKos (whoever wrote them) is more than welcome to do so!

Whatever you want. (0.00 / 0)
I thought you could kill two birds with one stone and get your site more exposure.  In any event, I'll see you one way or the other.

One more item to add under "Policy Positions" (4.00 / 2)
Supported school voucher proposal that voters defeated by a more than 2-to-1 margin. Lied to voters about his intention to reopen the voucher issue if elected.

Please read "Out of Iraq: A Practical Plan for Withdrawal Now" by George McGovern and William R. Polk.

Dick DeVos is a Quitter. . . (0.00 / 0)
with a record of failure.

Great summary, Matt!

This elections other Amway guy (0.00 / 0)
I hate to attack Democrats in the heat of an election but Coleman Young Jr isn't going to lose anyway so I'm going to bring this up.  He's Amway!

At least that's the conclusion of a guy on Hot Fudge Detroit, a site not known for political content.  I was skeptical at first but the more that's been posted the more I'm wonder why if Young, Jr is really on the level.

Judge for yourself...http://hotfudgedetro...

This is one I agree with...no matter what.. (0.00 / 0)
"Does not support law to ban smoking in restaurants and bars. Says Michigan citizens should have the right to CHOOSE"

I am a smoker...big deal.  Quit attacking me as a person.  I can understand restaurants IF the owner doesn't want smoking.  Only IF the owner says so.  Bars...same thing.  There are alot of "social" smokers out there that once they get a drink they are bumming cigs off me.

Benjamin Franklin: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I WANT MY HABEAS CORPUS BACK!!

I agree. (4.00 / 1)
I never think a position on a smoking ban is relevant to gubernatorial politics, anyhow.  It's hardly a winning issue, and its far from the core topics.

That's why the smoking question in debate 3 was so infuriating.  Even though the responses were insignificant compared to the overall debate, most media coverage made that one of the three main topics of "difference" between the candidates.

Hit DeVos on issues that matter: women's choice, healthcare, budget, education, economy.

I agree, and I quit (this time) about a year ago. (0.00 / 0)
Pisses me off the way they harangue smokers.  what's a bar without smoke.  What's a meal without an after dinner smoke.  When I come in contact with the smell of smoke, I breathe deeply and enjoy it second hand.  It should be a choice.

Dick Devos a big old quitter? (4.00 / 1)
Thanks a lot, Multicultural Matt! Now everybody is saying that Dick Devos is a quitter.

Some people may fear that because I quit so many times before I will quit again. Let me tell you, I didn't register devosforpresident.com to quit! Well, I guess I did, but only to quit on Michigan. I'll still be out there fighting for the corporations and special interests!
