Notice: Rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated!

by: matt

Mon Jan 08, 2007 at 18:37:29 PM EST

Let me put this as clearly as I can: Tim Skubick's story in MIRS tonight is incorrect. Michlib isn't going anywhere!

Yes, it's true that I am seeking gainful employment - and am considering a number of options in the private, non-profit, and governmental sectors. As many of you know, I have a family coming along and have some new obligations to take care of.

However, whatever happens, you can rest assured that Michlib will be there. This thing is much, much bigger than just one person!

I certainly hope that Michlib won't go away -- I don't currently have any other websites that I check obsessively.

Does anyone have a copy of the original report?

Check out my mediocre blog.

Means we have arrived (4.00 / 6)
When the right-wing media mouthpieces start with the death announcements, you know you've arrived.

Lord and master Kos has been dead how many times over now?

They just don't get it.

I read the article... (4.00 / 3)
...and it's crap. Anyone who knows you, Matt, knows that it was way off.

When's the retraction coming?

I haven't read the article but by the sound of things a lot more than a retraction is owed.

This maddening song... (4.00 / 4)
... plays in my head whenever I think of Skubick.

"You know we got a mystery to solve, so Skooby Doo be ready for your act.
Don't hold back!
And Skooby Doo, if you come through,
you're going to have yourself a skooby snack!
That's a fact!

Skooby-Dooby-Doo, here are you. You're ready and you're willing.
If we can count on you, Skooby Doo, I know you'll catch that villian."

Someone please make it stop.

This one comes to my mind (4.00 / 1)
"There's only one thing that I know how to do well
And I've often been told that you only can do
What you know how to do well
And that's be you,
Be what you're like,
Be like yourself,
And so I'm having a wonderful time
But I'd rather be whistling in the dark
Whistling in the dark
Whistling in the dark
Whistling in the dark
Whistling in the dark
Whistling in the dark
Theres only one thing that I like
And that is whistling in the dark..."

Oh, Tim Skubick! (4.00 / 7)
He's so dreamy.  I made this image of him in honor of this historic occasion.

Can anyone summarize/cross-post the MIRS article?  I know they're subscription-only, but...

Aww! I aim to please! ;) (4.00 / 1)
I considered making it all pretty and blended.  Then I thought: it's Tim Skubick.  He only deserves the paintbrush tool in bright red.  I felt like I was overdoing it just giving the image a LAYER. :(

I think the fair use doctrine covers ... (4.00 / 3)
. . . an analysis of just how this inaccurate piece reflects perfectly on Skubick's tendency to use many words to say nothing more than "only someone as deeply embedded in the fabric of the Lansing power elite as I could bring you such penetrating insights as these, such as 'X will happen, some say, although others say not.  Either way, something will or won't happen, and I, the DEAN OF CAPITOL CORRESPONDENTS will tell you why it did or did not happen just as I predicted.'"

Michigan Liberal's Days Numbered

The favorite blog for liberals to use for ranting and raving may be headed for the dumper sooner rather than later. [Ranting and raving--rather than, say, tooting one's own horn as a proper Dean of Capitol Journalists should.] The web site originator of Michigan Liberal.com [important to never quiiite get the URL right, as that would qualify as actual reporting, which is far below such an esteemed person.] is looking for new work and may be headed for a post in the Gov. Jennifer GRANHOLM administration.

All that former Congressional candidate and former Michigan Public Radio Reporter Matt FERGUSON will confirm is that the site is not making enough money to support his new family.

However, MIRS has learned that Ferguson is talking with the Governor's office about several potential positions including Public Information Officer for some unnamed department or a blog position in the front office itself. The Governor is familiar with Ferguson's work at Liberal.com [again, reinforce the wrong URL, very helpful.] telling reporters that that is her favorite site to visit.

Last check revealed that no offer had been made, but either way it appears she will have to find another favorite site real soon as Ferguson wants a new and more financially rewarding gig.  [Oooh, how hip this hep-cat is.]

By reading this a can only assume that Tim Skubick has given up his gig as a journalist and is now officially a gossip columnist.

Skubick. (4.00 / 2)
I bet his favoritist blog ever is www.perezhilton.com.  If only he could find a juicy shot of Gov. Granholm clubbing it up with Nicole Ritchie.  Then he could make it to the big times!

Good luck Matt! (0.00 / 0)
Best wishes on getting a job that fits you well!

I kinda wonder what sort of rules you might run up against if you do get a job in the Capitol?  My employer consults public entities on finance, and I can't give a dime to the DNC among a gazillion other rules (internal) to help make the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board feel totally happy that we're not up to shenanigans to get business - a good idea I support.  I just hate not being able to donate to candidates that I can't vote for directly - argghhhh.

Anyway - good luck!

Tim Skubick Going to the Michigan Liberal? (4.00 / 8)
(MIRS) Tim Skubick, long considered the dean of Michigan political reporters (yeah, well there's only like one or two), will be joining the Michigan Liberal blog.

Matt Ferguson, founder and liberal ideologue, tells MIRS that Skubick will be a welcome edition to the Liberal which will change its name to Michigan Conservative.com. "You just can't make money being a liberal and actually living liberal values, to do that, to make money you actually need to whore-up with the conservatives."

Skubick, who will be leaving his duties at MIRS and his television show, "Off the Record," said it's a great opportunity, "Matt's blog gets more readers in a day that I usually do in a year, so other people besides Republikanties will be able to read my stuff."

Bill Frist must be Skubick's doctor (4.00 / 6)
Another long distance diagnosis by someone unfamiliar with the case. Not to mention being unfamiliar with how the blogosphere works.

I know a few of us were suffering from head colds right before New Years Eve, but dead?

Tim-meh - check out the front page. Check out the list of recent diaries.

We're alive and well. And, just thrilled you care so much for us gossip.

Feel free to put on a dunce cap and face the corner.

Respectfully disagree (4.00 / 2)
Were Skubick actually flayed like a formaldehyde-preserved dead dissected cat, I'd believe Frist was his doctor.

Unfortunately, Skubick only smells like said cat.

MichLib led a full and productive life. (4.00 / 1)
I am saddened by the impending demise of MichLib.  To think that someone like Matt, unable to work at a real paying job... and still find time to blog led to the death of a Liberal institution.

Skubick is a tool!  Just because he lacks the ability to walk and chew gum... doesn't mean that other intelligent folk also lack the ability to multi-task.  Aparently Skubick doesn't understand the concept of a blogging community, to unfairly predict the end of MichLib because Matt is starting his family is just dumb.

Good luck Matt... I'm pretty sure that we've all got your back!

The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive. - Thomas Jefferson Democratic Edge

Hey has anyone read the new novel by Tim Stupick titled "Death of a Blogger"? A must read.

The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization.

You are all completely hilarious! (0.00 / 0)
He even got the URL incorrect....that is so sad.
Oh well, even if he did get the address right, Michlib probably would not receive any additional hits out of the deal.

Maybe that's his secret plan to stay relevant (0.00 / 0)
Kill traffic in his own Skubickian way by not providing the right URL for the site.  That way, his readers won't visit here and see everyone bad-mouthing him and get bad ideas.

I think you're giving him way too much credit Eric. My guess is he just doesn't know any better, given his intellectual capacity.
