The DCCC Is Coming

by: lpackard

Tue Jan 30, 2007 at 14:32:14 PM EST

2nd Update: CQPolitics has an article on Knollenberg, and the Detroit News talks about them both.

Update: DailyKos notes too, read here.

Read this Hotline snippet. The new chair of the DCCC specifically mentions the 7th and 9th as top targets.

Their blog last week had a nice article about Michigan too.

Yeah!!! (0.00 / 0)
Joe should start packing his bags now ... and not for a lobbyist paid trip to Hawaii for him and his wife.  :)

throw the 11th a bone too! (4.00 / 1)
McCotter carried 54% to Tony Trupiano's 43% by outspending him nearly 10-to-1.  And mostly by taking 60% of the votes in the Oakland County part of the gerrymandered district.

Bad Thad spent $875k, and got 42% of that money from PACs - $10k from Boehner's Freedom Project, for example.  Money from Ideology/Issue PACs was his largest source of funding - more than any single industry group.

Tony raised only $83k - 68% of which was from individuals like me!  Hook a guy up with some ad buys, and we can take the 11th back for the people who live there!

Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

In Kos' story.... (0.00 / 0)
Kos said if Tony ran again he'd be watching.  Which means huge netroots support if he runs.  It'll be a big help to get Kos behind us, as he can help us with media and fundraising.

Putting conservatives in charge of our government makes about as much sense as GM hiring a CEO who hates cars.

Hurray, hurray, hurray (0.00 / 0)
I've been hearing a lot about this lately.  We could have won last time if they had helped at all.  Looks like we might actually pull it off in '08 if they're going to help, and it looks like they will.

7th (0.00 / 0)
I think the 7th District has a lot of potential for a pick up if a strong candidate can be found. I know there are several people considering runs including some that ran last time. I think it is time for a new and stronger candidate that has some experience in elected office and running tough races. Senator Mark Schauer would be the best candidate in my opinion, but he has made it pretty clear he will not run for the 7th in 2008. I think that either State Rep. Dudley Spade or former State Rep. Doug Spade would also be strong candidates. There is a lot of talk of Joe Schwarz running as a Democrat and I would be supportive of the idea as long as he can promise he will be a voice of moderation and not cave to conservative forces. Schwarz has built up a reputation as a moderate although he tried to move a little to the right to try and win this last time I think he is truly a middle of the road kind of guy and that is probably the best we can get in such a lean Republican district. I am a little biased though too Dr. Schwarz took out my tonsils when I was 4. So what does everyone think about Schwarz or other candidates?

Schwarz was a good voice (0.00 / 0)
in the state legislature among John Engler wind-up toys. He used his experience as a physician to speak with eloquence and grace about health issues - including reproductive rights. I know many people who crossed party lines in the gubernatorial primary to vote for him on '02.

Unfortunately, his two years in Washington were insulting to the moderate constituency he said he would represent. He towed the BushCo party line all the way - proving his conscience is for sale.

He can't have it both ways. As far as I'm concerned, after that kind of support for BushCo, he can't possibly represent democratic interests in earnest, or with a straight face.

Schwarz should retire from politics.

So what does everyone think about Schwarz (0.00 / 0)
What does everyone think about actually building a Democratic Party with Actual Democrats?

If I wasn't clear enough (0.00 / 0)
I better not see his name, or hear his name, in the mix as a Democratic candidate in the 7th CD ifor '08.

Knollenburg was bled dry (4.00 / 1)
at 73, can he sprint around the capital to raise the millions he had stored up over the years?
This was one of the best things to come out of the Skinner campaign. It broke my heart that she lost but she accomplished a lesson I learned 15 years ago in politics, never let an incumbent go unchallenged so that they can build up these huge war chests.  I had to live in David Drier's district in CA. He's an awful legislator and human being he stays in office soley on his huge war chest.  Knollenburg is just as awful.

I hope Nancy considers running again, she could probably raise a million taking a nap, just talking about the numbers from the 2006 race and if the DCCC steps in, all bets are off.  Hopefully they don't piss their money away on stupid, milk toast ads like they did in several districts in IL and elsewhere.  Knollenburg, at 73, will be forced to sprint around the country to raise $3-4million plus AND beg the RNC for money, which they themselves will be trying to figure out how to take back 20 seats to have a razor thin majority.

GAME ON.

Will Skinner build up roots in Oakland County? (0.00 / 0)
The First Gentleman's chief of staff is a Lansing job.

What about the rumors that some big name is coming to challenge Toilet Joe?
