State of the State Group Liveblog - Here!

by: LiberalLucy

Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 17:44:09 PM EST

It's that time of the year again, time for Governor Granholm to deliver her 5th State of the State speech.

Look for it starting at 7p.m. on your local ABC affliate

Sources have it that the Lady Gov will deliver a tough, serious and honest assessment of Michigan's economy, coupled with a plan that will allow Michigan to keep growing and competing in the global marketplace.

Be on the lookout for a call to invest in

  • Alternative Energy
  • Small Businesses
  • Education
  • Job Retraining for displaced workers

...of course, that's not to mention reforming government to cut costs.

What are you looking to hear? David Boyle had a great diary running earlier today, but feel free to post here as well.

If technology and my wireless internet signal permits, stay tuned to MichLib as we'll bring you a live chat for all to join. If you're not up for chatting, feel free to use this as an open thread during and after the Speech.

See you soon!

i'm glad you didn't go with the list that i suggested to you :-P (n/t) (4.00 / 1)

Check out my mediocre blog.

This evening's grand address to the legislature... (4.00 / 1)

I'm certain that my succesor, Governor Granholm, will do a perfectly able and comendable service as it pertains to her annual communication to the House and Senate. Truth be told, however, the current governor will have great difficulty matching MY final message to the legislature in the year 1900. That was they year I told them that, unless there are great changes to "the present system of inequality, in less than a quarter of a century there will be a bloody revolution in this great country of ours."

Good luck, and godspeed, Ms. Granholm.

"HAZEN S. PINGREE...He was the first to warn the people of the great danger threatened by powerful private corporations, and the first to awake to the great inequalities in taxation and to initiate steps for reforms. THE IDOL OF THE PEOPLE"

Key words/phrase tonight... (4.00 / 1)
"We did it together" and Urgency, urgency, urgency!

My favorite phrase thus far - "Make Michigan a place to live, learn and earn!"

I want to change the world, not help people adjust to it. - Millie Jeffrey, MI - National Women's labor and Democratic activist, Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient

Consolidating and sharing (4.00 / 1)
Nice idea, but it's even tougher than herding cats.

Please read "Out of Iraq: A Practical Plan for Withdrawal Now" by George McGovern and William R. Polk.

Bishop needs a scribe! (4.00 / 1)
He's scribbling like mad!

And - he's barely clapping when she declared that she refused to cut educational spending this year. What's his deal?

I want to change the world, not help people adjust to it. - Millie Jeffrey, MI - National Women's labor and Democratic activist, Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient

Nice gambit on stem cells (4.00 / 1)
Unlike the minimum wage, the Republican Right won't go along with embryonic stem-cell research. So the issue will end up on the 2008 ballot, just as it did in Missouri last year.

Please read "Out of Iraq: A Practical Plan for Withdrawal Now" by George McGovern and William R. Polk.

Excellent... (4.00 / 1)
... content and delivery. Straight speech at a critical time. So powerful that all anyone can respond with is nervous titter.

Choose Michigan, or get out of the way.
