Saul's getting a smack down

by: Gus

Fri May 18, 2007 at 15:19:43 PM EDT

(Too good not to share... - promoted by Nazgul35)

Things are not looking good for the Michigan Republican Party Chair.

From the Michigan Conservative Dossier:

I got this email from the MI Republican Liberty Caucus today:

Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis will be issuing a statement retracting his call for Ron Paul to be excluded from future debates. His office now says
that there will be no "petition" circulated and a staffer says he hopes there will be a public statement about the matter later today. All of the website contact forms at http://www.migop.org... were deleted when the volume of negative comments exceeded the site's capacity. The state office (517) 487-5413 is still accepting calls.

There's more:

92% Do not support Anuzis' efforts to bar Ron Paul from future debates
POLL QUESTION: Do you support Michigan Republican Chair Saul Anuzis' efforts to bar Congressman Ron Paul from future debates?

Yes--His Comments crossed the line
11 votes/8%

He has the right to say what he wants
128 votes/92%

Total Votes: 139

From FreeMarketNews.com :

Has Saul Anuzis had enough? The Michigan GOP big had wanted to ban presidential candidate Ron Paul from further debates. But an Internet wildfire may have derailed his efforts.

FNMN feedbacker Tim writes: "I contacted the Michigan GOP early this morning & was told Saul Anuzis was backing down & would be officially withdrawing his petition. Can anyone confirm this? Grassroots apparently turned into a grassfire on the neocons & instead of protecting their home they ran to hide. If they keep losing battles in their War Against Ron Paul, we might gain the White House for him yet!"

From Mike's Blog :

I just spoke with a friend who knows the people who work in the Michigan GOP office. He said the office "can't handle the volume" and "don't know what to do". Saul Anuzis's blackberry is flooded with messages, his voicemail is already full, and Ron Paul supporters are starting to find new phone numbers to reach him. They are totally freaked out.

Those are just the tip of the iceberg. There are over 300 blogposts about Saul and Ron Paul. Not to mention the hundreds of news stories.

I am guessing we won't be seeing comment #64 anytime soon.

It is worth noting that a lot of ron paul's supporters come from Digg.  So not very politically aware, but they are a very "active" readership.

Check out my mediocre blog.

That's also why Ron Paul does so well in every single online poll.

Where's Saul? (0.00 / 0)
Interesting that there is a thread directly about Saul and he hasn't jumped in to comment.

Saul, Saul, come out where ever you are.

Hell (0.00 / 0)
it's the third diary about him and no comment...

Sounds like the big mouth bit off more than he could chew...anyone who has been reading MichLib should know that's a feature, not a bug.

It's a shame... (0.00 / 0)
Saul has pretty much killed his chances at staying head of the MRP in 2008.  Liberals and Democrats throughout the State will miss him.

Still, a Ron Paul nomination would be fun.  If the REPUBLICAN candidate is saying we should leave Iraq, that doesn't leave them mufh else to run on.

Plus it would virtually guarantee that our troops are coming home soon.

Putting conservatives in charge of our government makes about as much sense as GM hiring a CEO who hates cars.

Where's your political courage Saul? From his "blog" :
After consulting with my fellow RNC members, I believe there isn't anything to be gained by advancing a petition aimed solely at removing Congressman Paul from the debates.  The primary is and will continue to work itself out.

I wonder what was the staw that broke Saul's back... Was it his blackberry becoming unusable? Was it the flood of phonecalls and emails to MIGOP headquarters that caused them to take down their contact page(we are on day 2 it being down)? Was it the 400 blog posts? I guess this is why Saul doesn't allow comments on his so-called "blog."

My guess is that the Ron Paul controversy won't go away that easy for Saul despite his backing down. So I am guessing we won't see comment #64 for a little while.

Glad you missed me! (4.00 / 1)
I've been in South Carolina for the week and didn't have a chance to keep you informed...but you can always visit my blog and find out the latest.

My libertarian/republican friends got a bit stirred up over my comments about Congressman Ron Paul.

You've seen some of the discussion above and if you would like to see what this is all about from my perspective...since that is what the complaint is all about...take a look at what I'm saying at:

http://migop.blogs.c...

P.S. My blackberry was never down...our phones were not down and we just temporarily turned off the comment page to avoid much of the spamming. We handled all the volume and responded to everyone from Michigan.  Thanks for caring.

Great to have our friend back!!!

Now that you're back, are you going to encourage Mike Bishop to do what John Engler did often in his tenure - raise taxes?

Y'know, like the sales tax, the cigarette tax, and the gas tax? Surely if higher taxes hurt businesses, then Engler, now president of a manufacturing group, would've opposed all of these tax hikes.

Engler's too busy negotiating more (4.00 / 1)
secret trade deals with the Republicans and Democrats in DC.  Engler isn't done screwing Michigan over yet.  If this keeps up, I might just have to vote for Ron Paul. I'm gonna have to read up on him and find out if he's a regligious zealot like all the rest of the Republicans.

i won't vote for ron paul (4.00 / 1)
but i understand your frustration, particularly in terms of the trade deal.

This is why your party is unqualified to handle foreign policy (0.00 / 0)
To understand is not to condone; to explain is not to excuse.

The only mistake Ron Paul made was to suggest that our decade-long bombing campaign of Iraq was the primary reason why Arabs hated us.  Above that on the list given to us by al-Qaida was our long-standing presence in Saudi Arabia (considered by Arabs to be an occupation of their most holy soil; and hey! ... anyone wondered why we've closed our bases there?) and our undying support for Israel in the Palestinian question.

No one hates us for our "freedom."  Of course they hate us for what we do.  Hell, I got into a drunken argument with an otherwise mild-mannered middle-aged Filipino man who enlisted in the Navy because he wanted American citizenship over what we did in his home country (didn't stop this guy, who'd spent time as an elections observer in Cambodia -- so much a hater of freedom was he that he worked to ensure that elections were fair and safe from violence -- from applying for citizenship and attending graduate school for international relations at Johns Hopkins).  If you really think they hate us for our freedoms and not because of things we do, you're as dumb as the stump in my front yard.

Well... (4.00 / 1)
Now that Saul is back lets hope his severe moment of idiocy (as opposed to his regular idiocy) isn't going to keep him from running the MRP into the ground.

Putting conservatives in charge of our government makes about as much sense as GM hiring a CEO who hates cars.
