Michael Moore vs. CNN - round 2

by: Hazen Pingree

Tue Jul 10, 2007 at 16:06:38 PM EDT

UPDATE 2 by Hazen Pingree: Sweet! We're linked on the front of Michaelmoore.com! Thanks, guys! Server don't fail us now...

Looks like CNN is coming back for seconds. Part two of Michael's interview with Wolfman Blitzer airs tonight at 7. Then our guy from Davison goes head to head with Novi-native Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Larry King. That's at 9.

CNN, I'll be expecting my payola check any day now.

Also...Michaelmoore.com now has his itemized list of grievances against CNN here.

I have a suggested addition. The list mentions the CNN quote from a guy at the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions. Well, guess who just happens to be the "independent chairman" of the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions? Why it's noneother than the Hon. Tommy Thompson, George Bush's former Health and Human Sevices Secretary and John Engler clone ex-Governor of Wisconsin.

Nice balanced sourcing there, CNN.

I'm told that Michael visits - or at least is aware of - Michlib. Hopefully he sees this or comes across this info on his own before he goes on TV.

Either way, I'm getting my popcorn ready.

UPDATE by Hazen Pingree:
Here's the full version of yesterday's appearance - including ALL of Dr. Gupta's so-called "reality check":

if i'm not mistaken, the interview airing today was already taped (n/t) (0.00 / 0)

This is a double feature (4.00 / 1)
According to my understanding, the second part (previously taped) of Michael's interview will air at 7. Then, at 9 - he'll be on Larry King LIVE with Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

"HAZEN S. PINGREE...He was the first to warn the people of the great danger threatened by powerful private corporations, and the first to awake to the great inequalities in taxation and to initiate steps for reforms. THE IDOL OF THE PEOPLE"

I'm told that Michael visits - or at least is aware of - Michlib.

I love Michael Moore, but here's something I want to know. If he reads Michlib... why isn't he a member?

:-P

Just watched part 2. CNN now seems to be taking a much more conciliatory tone. Dr. Gupta even came on to retract one of his facts and say how he hoped the movie would help spur changes to the health care system, etc. Also says the Larry King show tonight will be a "discussion", not a debate.

"HAZEN S. PINGREE...He was the first to warn the people of the great danger threatened by powerful private corporations, and the first to awake to the great inequalities in taxation and to initiate steps for reforms. THE IDOL OF THE PEOPLE"

It was quick, but Michael did mention the Tommy Thompson connection! Yay! Says more info will be on his website soon.

"HAZEN S. PINGREE...He was the first to warn the people of the great danger threatened by powerful private corporations, and the first to awake to the great inequalities in taxation and to initiate steps for reforms. THE IDOL OF THE PEOPLE"

As for the rest... (4.00 / 2)
Whatever Sanjay may say, using official U.S. Department of Health & Human Services projections and citing a statistic from the BBC (Last I heard the BBC was considered a pretty repubtable news agency. I'd certainly trust them more than CNN!) - is not "fudging" the numbers. If Sanjay didn't think his data souces were credible, he should have said so outright, rather than just reporting numbers he happened to like better. "Fudging" implies that he was just making shit up...which was simply not the case.

But I suppose that level of serious discussion would be just too much for CNN's viewership to deal with.

It was certainly a nice touch for Larry King to proclaim that he wanted to be balanced and fair, etc....and then moments later say about Sanjay's "reality check" that it "seemed balanced to me."

Oh well, I guess it's nice that they all do apparently agree that the U.S. system sucks.

Larry King is replayed at 12:00 am (0.00 / 0)
I'm going to watch it then. Hopefully I can stay awake for most of it.
