The
Americans Against Escalation in Iraq
campaign has a new TV ad,
"DRAFT"
, going after Michigan's Rep. Fred Upton, as well as Senator McConnell and Reps. Drake and English. The ad hits them all for their support of Bush's endless war.

Wouldn't it make more sense....

Wouldn't it make more sense to go after Rogers or Walberg? They are alot more vocal about their support of the war than Upton. Upton votes with us more than Walberg or Rogers.

Fred Upton is pretty safe, IIRC.

Their mission is not to defeat Republicans, it's to end the war. They decided to go about it by pressuring Republicans this summer who are likely/possible to switch their vote. I guess they believe Upton might be on the fence? Probably for the same reason you said, he votes with us sometimes.

But didn't Upton vote against the surge? I'd rather see these fellas running ads somewhere else. Hoekstra is in a slightly more expensive media area, but shouldn't the anti-war folks be going after him? This isn't really working for our cause, by going after moderates like Upton it makes the anti-war cause look bad. I understand that they think he will switch his vote, but it seems like they are just trying to hard with Upton.

It's dishonest.

We shouldn't be attacking anyone by implying that we'll have a military draft. We won't. Everyone in Congress knows that if they vote for one, it will mean political suicide.
Putting conservatives in charge of our government makes about as much sense as GM hiring a CEO who hates cars.

If we had a draft we wouldn't have this war

Although I disagree with this war, threatening a draft is the wrong way to oppose it. The problem with our current system of military defense is that the danger is borne by those with the least influence to oppose an unjust war. The move to an all volunteer army has relieved Americans of their duty to defend their country and placed that responsibilty into the hands of the poorest citizens. We NEED a draft to protect us from the "Chicken Hawks" like Bush and Cheney and to ensure that the jingoistic tendancies of these leaders is tempered by the realization that all citizens must be willing to stand at the breach.
