'Why My Job is more important than a Golf Outing': Day 4

by: LiberalLucy

Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 11:00:00 AM EDT

It's Day 4 and there's some extremely scary news coming out -

Reports are coming in from across the state that state employees have been informed that their next paycheck maybe their last for a while due to the overwhelming probability of a government shutdown.

Senator Mike Bishop (R-Vanity), has your golf game been worth it?

To the thousands of state employees, this is why you might not have another paycheck for a while. Are you okay with that?

Are you a state employee? What would happen to your job/department if Mike Bishop gets his way and we're forced to a government shutdown? Email us your story, and we'll anonymously post it here.

again, if Bishop is an intellectual lightweight (0.00 / 0)
then let's crush him.  Dillon and Granholm need to take this to the local airwaves with a coordinated, consistent strategy to bring pressure to bear upon Bishop and the GOP senate.  I never met Bishop when I lived in Rochester Hills but he did seem to be just a suit.  Force Bishop to defend his budget postions day after day.  If he's got the IQ of plywood then he'll eventually crack.  He can't run to the right wing talking points hourly, or maybe they can, I guess he'll check his text messages constantly.  But, anyway, a coordinated barrage of public pressure will bring him down.  What are Dillon and the Governor waiting for?

Sorry to say... (4.00 / 1)
but I don't think that The Governor and the Speaker have it in them to step up to the plate and play hardball.  I have brought this out before and have been roundly vilified by those who think the Governor can do no wrong (sounds like some neocons I know in reference to President Bush).  Your sugestion, Gaspare, is great and it is something that should have been done during the debate (debacle?) over the current budget which brought us to the existing fiasco in the making.

Dillon has always seemed to be a lightweight, but I am very disappointed in the Governor.  After the last election, she had the politcal clout to get her way, if she was willing to use it.  She wasn't and apparently isn't.

If we don't have a shut down, then the best we can hope for is another short term fix to a long term problem.
