Well, it's just a thought, not an endorsement. Whom would you rather have running? Kwame? Fieger? Eminem? Anyway, not too early to plan for the next gubernatorial election. --As Liberal Lucy mentions in Coffee Talk, the Gov's plan does not seem too popular ("Iowa pollster" issue aside), so, remembering that "co-equal branches of government" thing from high school civics, maybe some of our legislators deserve some attention too. Despite some folk portraying Dillon as Mr. Cut-Cut or Joe Stealth Repub or something: see, e.g., the Freep, Granholm faces tough sell with lawmakers,
"...Here is a summary of their goals and strategies: ...
Dillon: The tax increases present serious problems to his vulnerable, newly elected House Democratic majority. The cuts are anathema to core Democratic support groups, such as unions and urban poor people." All right, maybe he could go along more with the tax rise, but he also seems concerned that there is too much cutting in some areas. So maybe he is not terrible after all. And at least he has interesting ideas, see, e.g., DetNews, Dillon fights to keep Comerica: House speaker says he has 3 ideas to motivate bank's board of directors to keep HQ in Michigan, "..."I just don't want to roll over and let it happen," the Redford Democrat told reporters. ..." So, watch various people to see what interesting leadership ideas they produce. Clearly, things are not working as they are, so hopefully something new will evolve.....
Relevant diaries of mine:
1. Status-segregated, money-wasting universities: bad idea for Michigan (re one place where serious cuts can be made re administrator salaries and other unnecessary luxuries, including a separate silver-platter appropriations tier)
2. Visit from House Speaker Andy Dillon! (... "but where's Steve Tobocman?") (more Dillon info)
