As a Catholic I love this. As a Catholic Democrat I love this. As a Liberal Catholic Democrat I love this. Ok, I'm pro-choice but this is a great ad.
Ad Campaign Criticizes Pro-Life Members of Congress for Voting against Children's Health Insurance
Washington, DC- Catholics United will launch a radio advertising campaign targeting ten members of Congress whose opposition to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) have compromised their pro-life voting records.
Constituents of Rep. McCotter's district have been gathering over the last few weeks in an effort to pressure the congressman into changing his vote on the Iraq war. On Thursday, some of them showed up to demand a meeting with the congressman and crammed into his office meeting room to ensure that the request was understood.
Last night, a group met at a church in Livonia to make signs and banners urging the congressman to end the war. Hundreds of yard signs were put together, arrayed to be placed all over the community. Such events have become more common as community members realize that their representative is completely out of touch with their position on the war.
It is never an easy task to take down an incumbent member of Congress. The truth is, this race could cost millions of dollars to come out on top. We need to show Glenn Anderson that we are serious about not only wanting him as our candidate, but are very serious about him being our next Congressman.
When the protesters moved inside, they were briefly challenged by the building manager, who told them McCotter was not in the building and that the congressman's staff did not want to meet with the group.
"You can make an appointment with him. You're not a tenant of the building," he told them.
Yes, that's right. The fifth ranking member of the Republican Congressional leadership who signs letters to constituents "I work for you" hid behind a building manager.
Cheap. Tawdry. Gutless. And, just plain inexcusable.
Your constituents' tax dollars fund your office Mr. McCotter. Shame on you and your staff. You don't show up for scheduled office hours and you don't want constituents in your office.
If you're going to cast votes contrary to wishes of the majority of the people in your district, at least have the common decency to listen to opposing views.
McCotter has been a steady supporter of the Iraq War and is supporting a troop escalation. He voted against the non-binding resolution. phikapbob has more details in his diary about thin-skinned Thad's pompous comments on the subject.
In his remarks to Congress last Thursday, Thaddeus McCotter conjured up images of Winston Churchill, Neville Chamberlain, Hitler and the appeasement of Nazi power in the 1930s.

The quote comes a story on VoA's Web site which discusses that Congressional band McCotter plays in
In a lighter "political" moment, Michigan Republican Thaddeus McCotter offered his thoughts on why four out of five band members are Republicans. "But it [the Republican majority] does represent the proportional talent on either side of the aisle."
Classy Thad. Really classy.
Did you ever stop to think that Democrats go to Washington to deal with the people's business and not to try and imitate rock bands? Probably not. I'm not convinced you think. Rubber stamp wind up toys don't need to do.
Pity. You wasted your contributors' money. You're in the minority now. It's got to be pretty boring to be a George W. Bush cheerleader these days. And, besides you're going to need those funds in '08.
Check out MyDD's "Top 50 House pick-up chances" at http://www.mydd.com/.... There are four Michigan seats on the list; Tim Walberg (MI-07) is number one, Joe Knollenberg (MI-09) is number eleven, Thaddeus McCotter (MI-11) is number twenty-five, and Dave Camp (MI-04) brings up the rear at number fifty.
Republicans currently hold a three vote advantage in the Michigan delegation (9-6). Think what Michigan could bring to the table if its Congressional delegation matched the majority.
We've got two months to prepare ourselves for the 110th Congress. I'm certainly not expecting much bi-partisanship and cooperation from those about to be investigated into reality, but let's have a look at one of the new Republican leaders.
Thaddeus McCotter, a Republican from Michigan's 11th district, was elected as Chairman of the Republican House Policy Committee. He's little known, yet this is the fourth highest leadership position in the Republican House Caucus. As the Policy Committee Chairman, he'll be responsible for pulling Republicans together on issues, as if they had experienced a problem with lockstep legislating so far.
But McCotter is billing himself as a disgruntled backbencher recently promoted by the all-new, no longer corrupt Republican Party out to save the day.
"The role is more like a symphony conductor than like Mick Jagger," said amateur guitarist McCotter, who will work with fellow Republicans to come up with compromise policies on key issues, such as Iraq, health care and stopping the loss of manufacturing jobs.
Thin-skinned Thad says he's going to come up with compromises.
If you haven't done so yet Thad you better look at the definition of compromise. It's something republicans have refused to do. Oh but wait, now that you're not in the majority you want to compromise. How charming.
It gets better more out of touch.
"Right off the bat, we need to make sure to have a policy that will bring victory in Iraq," said McCotter. "That is the No. 1 issue on the American public's mind."
Hello! Pick up the white courtesy phone Congressman.
The voters believe that the President lied to the country about Iraq and any danger it posed to this country. The voters know our men and women in arms have been placed needlessly and wrecklessly in harm's way for those lies.
The time for a plan was before Congress voted to give the President a blank check to do whatever he wanted. That was something you supported Congressman.
It's time to bring our troops home Mr. McCotter. How can you justify asking more people to die for a mistake?
And Congressman, did you ever stop to wonder why the Iraq Veterans for Progress endorsed Tony Trupiano? No, probably not. You were too busy cashing checks from the likes of Tom DeLay, Bob Ney and Duke Cunningham which you, in turn, used to buy your way into your post as policy chair.
Rep. Thad McCotter (R-Mich.) was this week’s surprise contributor by offering the NRCC $250,000.
A quarter of a million dollars is considered an unusually large contribution for a second term Congressman. It was obvious McCotter was putting his chips on the table in order to enter the leadership race. Money is still the mother's milk of republican politics.
Being part of the Republican Leadership Team - Priceless $250,000.
McCotter, of Livonia, said he wants to become the House policy committee chairman, which would be the fourth-highest position for the House GOP. His party lost control of Congress in Tuesday's elections.
The story continues
McCotter said if elected to the leadership post he would work "to reaffirm and reassert the principles and policies which have, and will again, convince the sovereign American people to entrust us with congressional majority."
Pompous ass.
Go ahead Thad. With policies like yours, the democrats will have a landslide in 2008. The only reason you got relected was the print media swallowed the kool-aid about you being a moderate and never looked at your record.
And Thad, we're watching your every move and every vote now. You're not going to be able to run from your right wing extreme positions any more.
McCotter drew CD11 for himself when he was in the state legislature. Too bad he's neglected to represent his constituents for the last four years. They've noticed.
Be scared Thad.
Yard signs on front lawns are votes. The GOTV effort over the weekend sprouted many surprises.
Tony Trupiano's campaign against McCotter has come so far and is now the proverbial so close. Tony is polling well within the margin of error.
It's crunch time.
If you live in the area please get out your walking shoes. The campaign want s to get an additional 25,000 pieces of literature out this weekend. It's just a lit drop - no knocking, no canvassing.
This race is close and 25,000 extra homes can very well be the difference.
The details:
Literature Drop -- Friday, Saturday & Sunday (all day, anytime)
Call 734-367-0490 Nan or Justin.
Or go in to the campaign office (13740 Merriman, Livonia) & ask for Nan or Justin.
Even if you don't live in CD11, but come out for a few hours over the next few days, your time and efforts will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Note & Disclaimer: This is not an official note from the campaign. I'm merely a blogger who wants McCotter out of office and representation for the people of CD11 in Congress.
Tony Trupiano's campaign (CD11) is getting a huge boost. He needs your help to give it a bigger one.
Howie Klein and the folks at Blue America have got a TV ad they want to help Tony air. The whole story is here at the Huffington Post.
They had an ad ready to run for Webb in Virginia titled Rubber Stamp. Long story short, Webb's not using it and they've decided to modify it for Tony. Go watch. I'll wait.
As Howie tells the story...
We got Markos to go over all the races with us and figure out which race would be most likely to benefit from this particular ad and where our limited budget would actually do enough... not just enough to send a message, but enough to swing a few points and win an election. In the end the four of us all came to the same conclusion: Tony Trupiano.
Check out Klein's description of McCotter. It's perfect.
Tony's opponent is a posterboy for the whole concept of being a rubber stamp. He is one of the least independent-minded congressman in Washington, even to the point of being a bit of a laughing stock. A complete mama's boy, he became hysterical at the one debate he had with Tony and wound up making an idiot out of himself and then refusing any further debates. Since he actually gerrymandered the district for himself as a state legislator, he feels quite certain he's got this baby in the bag. He must be reading MyDD because he just gave away 80% of his campaign warchest-- all those legalized bribes for so many favors to so many corporations-- to the RNCC.
So why the home stretch effort?
We can win this race. Tony's doing very well on a shoestring budget. Some real air time the last week of the campaign could put him over the edge of victory.
Rahm Emanuel and the DCCC are sitting on their asses and watching. It's up to us. Everything about Tony's campaign is grassroots.
Remember at the state convention in August when Tony stood on stage and said "We're done playing defense"?
Well, we've got the ball. Tony's game plan for America is a true progressive agenda. The play is a quarterback sneak over the goal line.
