MichLib Meetup: A Complete Success!

by: LiberalLucy

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 22:08:36 PM EST

A huge MichLib thanks goes out to all of our bloggers, friends, supporters, and lurkers who joined us this evening in Lansing at 621 to raise a pint with us.

The Uni-blogger (a.k.a. Eric B.) who made the trek down from Mt. Pleasant was joined by other travelers at our event, including some who came from Muskgeon and SE area. We were honored to have them make the trip just to join us.

We were also honored to have friends and supporters from the labor, environmental, and social justice communities stop by and join in the fun. Of course that doesn't include our friends and allies from the Senate and House and our own Numbers Guru - Mark Grebner, all of whom joined us in celebration.

Many thanks to JPowers155 for helping wrangle the Uni-blogger and act as the party planner, and to fellow front-pagers BZP, Rich, and LPackard for a fantastic time with all of our friends.

For inquiring minds, I'm here to make the official report that there were no inflatable dolls, there wasn't a speck of Amway Product anywhere, despite repeated attempts the dear departed Gov. Hazen Pingree was no where to be found, Black Earl may or may not have appeared, and yes, there was Star Trek conversation (but for the record I did not participate!).

What there was a fun time had by all, excellent food and drink provided by the fantastic staff at 621, and talk about our next gathering, to be determined.

Thanks to all who attended, and for those of you who couldn't join us, you were there in spirit!

(Don't worry, I won't even try to compete with the awesome Morning Round-up over at Pohlitics.)

All the best!

Why Net-Roots Meet Ups are So Successful

by: LiberalLucy

Fri Feb 09, 2007 at 08:08:28 AM EST

Last night was our Netroots meet up with Lansing-area lawmakers, and by all accounts it was a success. Many thanks to the 20-30 folks who came out for the event and left us with standing room only. Even more thanks to State Sen. Gretchen Whitmer, Rep. Barb Byrum, Rep. Joan Bauer and Rep. Mark Meadows for joining us.

For most, it was their first meet-up of that type. We had a richly diverse group, from state employees to stay-at-home parents, to young professionals, to some local union members.

Everyone came with the same goal, to explore how we as a community come together to make our state work better for all of us. The most widely-talked about topic was the state budget and what it means for us, the citizen. Our guests helped us better understand what's going on at the state process, and we helped them understand what's important to us.

We also discussed how we can work better with our government to achieve some of the common goals that we have and how we continue to fight against the Republican propaganda machine.
When we started speaking about the blogs and the online community, it seemed apparent that our elected officials understood the importance of this tool, and the power that it has to reach across traditional communication lines. We talked about the need for everyone to step up their own personal advocacy, whether it be on or offline, to push for different measures that are necessary to keep our state great.

This meet-up was a success, and I hope that these types of meet ups will quickly be further embraced by our progressive legislative counter-parts. This is just another way that we continue to invest in our people, in our economy, in our future, and mostly importantly, this is how we continue to keep Michigan great!

Calling All Northern Michigan Liberals!

by: LiberalLucy

Wed Jan 24, 2007 at 00:42:33 AM EST

I know, I know. We here south of Mt. Pleasant always seem to forsake you, do we not? Well, that's about to end.

I know that you're out there, so consider chiming in when I ask for your help in working to organize a meet-up for your area.

Where are you located, where do you want to meet, and how can we help you way up in your neck of the woods? (Pardon the pun.) Regardless of where you call home, be it Ishpeming or Leelanau or Alpena, I want to hear from you.

I'll work to connect you with your local Net Roots community and your legislators, and to help you keep Michigan great!

So drop us a line here or email me, and say hello!
