Social Security: Are You Ready For A Congressional "Video Staycation"?

by: fake consultant

Sun Apr 03, 2011 at 21:29:07 PM EDT

Diligent reporter that I am, I got up Thursday morning to do a bit of fishing for a story, and as so often happens, I've caught something a bit unexpected.

Now what I have for you today starts out as a bit of insider information that came to me on background-but it turns into a chance for those of us who support Social Security to very much get in the faces of our members of Congress, for two whole weeks.

And to make it even better, I'm going to throw out a few direct action ideas "for your consideration" (as they say in Hollywood during Awards Season) that would absolutely make good street actions and YouTube videos, both at the same time...and even more importantly, we'll absolutely make some great Spring Break fun.

Off The Record

(From the diaries. - promoted by nirmal)

I just caught "Off the Record" on wkar and wanted to send a quick congrats to Joan and Marcy for their performance. Always great to see fresh perspectives on that show.

The one thing that really made me laugh was the Republican bloggers insistance that "taxpayer funded abortion" would be their hallmark issue to win in Michigan in 2008. Marcy was great pointing out the hypocrisy of saying Giuliani was the favorite for the Republican candidacy on one hand and then trumpeting this issue on the other. Even with Marcy taking them to task, the Republican bloggers were smug about their "taxpayer funded" distinction as their silver bullet. Well, all I gotta say is stop being so smug:

I guess its time to try and find another silver bullet.

And on a side note, I think its pretty reasonable to think that economic status should not impede a woman's right to decide what to do with her body. I am glad Giuliani thinks (or used to think) so too.

Bloggers gaining credibility with appearance of LL on OTR

by: kjbas58

Bloggers took a major step toward the mainstream and credibility when one of our own was included as a regular panelist on a mid-Michigan institution, "Off the Record with Tim Skubick."

Julielyn Gibbons - AKA Liberal Lucy of Liberal, Loud and Proud - appeared as a regular panelist on the show hosted by Tim Skubick, along with Rick Albin of WOOD-TV, Stephanie Korneffel of MIRS and Bill Ballenger of Inside Michigan Politics. The show on Michigan PBS stations features various mainstream reporters that cover the legislature and state government talking about the hot political stories, and it usually features a guest.

LL appeared as a panelist as part of a show on blogging and bloggers, and a week later she joined the panel as a capitol correspondent. Hopefully, she will appear as part of the rotating panel of reporters, and it will also spur Mr. Skubick to look at other bloggers for inclusion as panelists.

The show airs on most state PBS stations, but here in mid-Michigan it can be it can be seen on WKAR in East Lansing at 11:30 p.m. Sunday. It can also be seen on line.

On a personal note, LL is a former Livingston County resident, hailing from Green Oak Township where some of our most loyal and active Democrats come from, and her parents still live there.

She has also posted a very personal and courageous story on why she started blogging and became an activist.  She is asking for our help in spreading the word about Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. In doing so, she is trying to bring attention to an upcoming event, the Get Your Guts in Gear ride. Please check out her post on the subject, the event itself and spread the word.

Tim Skubick: Let's Bash Granholm for Everything! Again! And Again! And...

by: quaker21

Good Lord, Tim Skubick is still a loser.  In the latest Off the Record, Skoob tries to nail Granholm between the eyes (from the comfort of his ivory tower of course) about her bi-partisan budget panel.  "THE DECK IS STACKED!!!"  "WHERE'S THE OVERSIGHT!?!?"  "WHY AREN'T BUSINESS LEADERS THERE?!?!"

Heaven forbid the Governor might want to shut the doors for some time to think.  After all, the Republican legislature shut the doors in her face and didn't think when they decided it would be a fun stunt to kill the SBT and get us in this mess in the first place.

Thankfully, the panel -- Dawson Bell, Kathy Barks Hoffman, and Bill Ballenger -- weren't buying (most) of Skubick's omnipresent Granholm bash-fest.

And Barks Hoffman came back and hit Timmeh square between the eyes with her own little gem.
