Twitter = Kalashnikov?

by: kelster

Sun Feb 15, 2009 at 17:33:53 PM EST

(Ummmm ... wow. - promoted by Eric B.)

The NRC just hosted its first Tech Summit, "a gathering of party leaders, wonks and tech gurus" who got together to generate ideas that might help move the GOP out of the Stone Age.

Summit participants not only heard from Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich, but also from members of the public -- unusually for the GOP, the event was open to everyone.

Helping to run the summit was Michigan's own Saul Anuzis, who is the new "RNC transition chairman." Though the title "transition chairman" sounds vaguely like "Miss Congeniality," at least it gets him out in the fresh air...

During lunch break, Saul Anuzis is holding court near the entrance. "Why do revolutionaries use Kalashnikovs?" he asks. "Because they won't jam. It's not the best gun, but you can throw it in the mud, pick it up, and it still works. This is a revolution."

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Throw your Blackberry in the mud?  Steal your neighbor's wifi? Given recent sketchy GOP attempts to use Twitter, is this really the most helpful metaphor for Saul to choose?

Not to mention that when it comes to recent electoral outcomes, Saul's Republican "revolution" looks more Russian than American.

MichLib Meetup: A Complete Success!

by: LiberalLucy

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 22:08:36 PM EST

A huge MichLib thanks goes out to all of our bloggers, friends, supporters, and lurkers who joined us this evening in Lansing at 621 to raise a pint with us.

The Uni-blogger (a.k.a. Eric B.) who made the trek down from Mt. Pleasant was joined by other travelers at our event, including some who came from Muskgeon and SE area. We were honored to have them make the trip just to join us.

We were also honored to have friends and supporters from the labor, environmental, and social justice communities stop by and join in the fun. Of course that doesn't include our friends and allies from the Senate and House and our own Numbers Guru - Mark Grebner, all of whom joined us in celebration.

Many thanks to JPowers155 for helping wrangle the Uni-blogger and act as the party planner, and to fellow front-pagers BZP, Rich, and LPackard for a fantastic time with all of our friends.

For inquiring minds, I'm here to make the official report that there were no inflatable dolls, there wasn't a speck of Amway Product anywhere, despite repeated attempts the dear departed Gov. Hazen Pingree was no where to be found, Black Earl may or may not have appeared, and yes, there was Star Trek conversation (but for the record I did not participate!).

What there was a fun time had by all, excellent food and drink provided by the fantastic staff at 621, and talk about our next gathering, to be determined.

Thanks to all who attended, and for those of you who couldn't join us, you were there in spirit!

This Outreach Director Wants YOU to join us

So it's official, I'm official, or so we've been notified. But that's besides the point. The real buzz is all about Michigan's lefty bloggers.

They are a talented lot. Some have Ph.D.'s, and some have proudly served their country in the military.  Some are nearing retirement, others are about to start college. Some hold office, others hold their children's hands as they grow and blossom into proud citizens. Some have, and others are have-not. Some are straight, some are gay, some are athletes, some live proudly with their health challenges. Some have never been out of Metro-Detroit, and others make it a point to stay Up North.

No matter our differences, we have one unifying thread, we care enough about our state to fight against those who would tear it apart, who would rather the poor stay poor and the wealthy get richer. We love our state, and because it means so much to us, we're here to educate, to inform, and boost our state up to the place we know it can be. We chastize our public servants when they forget who they work for, and applaud them when they show the chutzpah and determination to make the right decisions. Simply put, we love our state as much as you do.
